Thompson has more than 29 years of experience in business, construction and real estate transactions, and complex commercial litigation. His clients in transactional and litigation cases have ranged from publicly traded corporations to small businesses and individuals.
He has represented clients in a variety of Federal and State Trial and Appellate Courts in Colorado, New Jersey and Pennsylvania in connection with claims involving jurisdictional disputes, real estate disputes, contract disputes, shareholder/partner/member disputes, fraud, deceptive trade practices, negligence, commercial landlord/tenant disputes, tortious interference, mechanic’s lien foreclosures, zoning and planning board of appeals and insurance coverage disputes.
In addition to his trial experience, Mr. Thompson regularly counsels clients on a variety of legal issues in the real estate, insurance, corporate and distributorship/franchise areas. This counseling often involves the preparation of various types of agreements necessary for the business operation, including shareholder, operating, leases purchase/sale, employment, non-disclosure, sale and manufacturing, and distribution and licensing.
Mr. Thompson began his legal career in Colorado during the summer of 1984 as an intern to chief Justice William H. Erickson of the Colorado Supreme Court and upon graduation from law school in 1986, began practicing law in Colorado. A South Jersey native, in 1990 he left Denver and returned to the Philadelphia area (Cherry Hill, NJ), joining the Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP law firm in 1991. Early in his 14 years at Obermayer, He rose to Partner in the firm’s litigation department.
In August 2005, Mr. Thompson returned to Colorado and formed Thompson & Thompson LLP with his brother, Ronald H. Thompson. Following Ron’s untimely passing in 2010, Mr. Thompson merged his practice into what then became Heckenbach, Thompson, Suazo & Dave LLP. In order to provide a wider range of services and better serve his clients, he joined Berenbaum Weinshienk PC as a shareholder in the Spring of 2013. In February 2015, he left the full-time practice of law to accept a position as the CEO, President & General Counsel of his long-time client, Eat at Joe’s, Ltd., a publicly traded company.
In every situation, Mr. Thompson spends the time with his client that is necessary to gain an understanding of the client’s business and objectives and then works with the client to develop an appropriate strategy for success.
